Adventure packrafting on the calm waters of the Ems, surrounded by lush German nature. Ems

Packrafting through the German splendor

We start our route early in the morning at the large parking lot in Warendorf. For those who would like to come by camper: there is a camper place nearby (Gartenstraße 27, 48231 Warendorf, Germany). 300 m further on we can already enter the Ems. The Ems is a gently flowing river. We paddle 16 km through beautiful nature. It is important to stick to the official embarkation and disembarkation points, bring back your garbage, take care of rest and do not enter the sandbanks you encounter. We paddle as far as Telgte. If you want to packraft on the section after Telgte, you have to sign up for this at the tourist office. In addition, that section is only accessible between May 1 and October 31. At 16 km you have just paddled under a footbridge. On the right bank you see a kayak pier. The kayak pier is before the bend. We moor there. Here you can take some time to picnic and put away your packraft equipment. Don’t have a picnic with you? With a little detour, there are several places to eat in the center of Telgte.

Discover nature in all its glory

We resume the route and cross the small bridge. 500 m further we go back across the next little bridge. We walk through Emsauenpark Telgte. Large parts of the Emsauenpark belong to the nature reserve “Emsaue”. Because of its ecological importance, this area has been designated as a FaunaFloraHabitat (FFH) area and is thus part of the protected area network “NATURA 2000” for the preservation of Europe’s natural heritage. We are surprised by the variety of deciduous forest, coniferous forest, wetlands and grasslands. We arrive at an observation platform where you get a nice view of the Ems. We are now at 23.10 km. The ideal time to snack to get back some energy for the last 10 km. To finish, we pass Kottruper Seen. It is definitely worth taking a look at the observation platform provided.
