Du Tarn - Hikers enjoy panoramic views from Mont Chabrio in Parc National des Cévennes

Parc National des Cévennes

Our tour begins with a brisk 13.7 km hike through the impressive Parc National des Cévennes. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this national park is characterized by its rugged terrain, deep valleys and rich biodiversity. During the hike, you will pass diverse flora and fauna, including wild orchids and maybe even a few rare birds. One of the highlights of our hike is the ascent of Mont Chabrio. This mountain, with an altitude of about 1107 m, offers a panoramic view of the surrounding valleys and the Gorges du Tarn. We do not hike to the summit (approximately to 950 m), but are already enjoying the fantastic panoramic views. The fresh air and unspoiled nature are sure to delight you! Our descent to Blajoux is tough and requires some extra attention. Make sure you wear sturdy hiking shoes with good grip, the last part is steep. Take your time to get down safely and enjoy the nature around you.

Packrafting through Gorges du TarN

Arriving at Blajoux on the beach (13.3 km), it’s time to get our packraft ready for the water adventure. Remember that wearing a helmet and life jacket is mandatory. Our packraft equipment is soon ready to hit the water. Once we are on the water, we see Gorges du Tarn from a completely different perspective. The Tarn is one of the most beautiful rivers in France, surrounded by steep cliffs and lush forests. As we paddle, we see vultures circling majestically above us, a stunning sight that highlights the natural beauty of this area. Du Tarn is a gently flowing river with several short rapids. At 15.6 km (No. 32), we paddle past Castelbouc. Hanging against the cliffs of the Causse Méjean, the village was founded under the shadow of the castle to take advantage of the protection it offered. In the mid-20th century, residents gradually left Castelbouc to settle in the villages on the right bank of the Tarn, where there was electricity. The last official resident died in 1971, leaving the village abandoned. A few decades later, the popularity
of Castelbouc revived and the ruins were bought over. Everything was restored and slowly but surely the place came back to life. After a wonderful paddling trip of almost 11 km, we dock at the little beach. We stow our packraft equipment again and walk the last bit back to the Sainte-Enimie parking lot.
