Splash, Paddle, Test! All about Packrafting Testivals (and why you want to be there)
Picture this: you’re paddling across crystal clear mountain water, the sun shining on your paddle, and your rolled-up tent is dry and compact in the front of your packraft. Sounds like a dream? That dream is closer than you think. Packrafting is the way to combine hiking and boating, and it is becoming increasingly popular in Europe. Would you like to experience it yourself? Then packrafting testivals are the perfect place to start.
What is a packrafting testival?
A testival is basically what the name implies: a combination of testing and festival. You get the chance to try out different packrafts on the water, from stable entry-level models to maneuverable whitewater boats. At the same time, you’ll meet other adventurers, learn from experts and enjoy a friendly atmosphere on the waterfront. It’s accessible, educational and fun.
Packrafts themselves are lightweight, inflatable boats that you easily carry in your backpack. They are strong enough for rugged rivers, but compact enough to carry on your next hike. In short: the Swiss army knife among boats.
Why you really don't want to miss a testival
1. Test before you invest
A good packraft is not an impulse buy. At a test event, you can try several models without buying right away. Experience the difference between fast and stable, lightweight or extra rugged and find out what suits your style.
2. Learning in practice
At a testival, you’ll learn techniques directly from seasoned packrafters. No dry manuals or endless YouTube videos, but practical tips on paddling, equipment, safety and routes. Including how to charmingly climb back into your boat if you flip over.
3. Meeting adventurers
Whether you come solo or with friends you are rarely the only beginner. Testivals bring together people who are all looking for the same thing: adventure, freedom and nature. Before you know it, you’ll be making plans to trek through Norway or the Ardennes.
